TipsFromtheGarden-TheValueofMilkweed

TipsFromtheGarden~
TheValueofMilkweed~

Good Morning My dearest Friends & Followers and
Welcome to Saturday's
~TipsFromtheGarden~
Value of the Milkweed
So you may wonder why the Milkweed is import?
Well these beautiful plants will keep the wonder of the
Monarch Butterflies population alive.
Yes, those beautiful Orange and black butterflies of beauty.
So if you grow the Milkweed in your gardens you will be
lending a BIG! HAND to these lovely monarchs that are endangered.
It seems that the Monarch population is at a all time low these days
and that recent estimates of the monarchs that overwinter in Mexico show their number
are nearly half of what they were only a few years ago.
It was said that in Mexico in the year 2012, about 60-million
Monarchs had arrived for the winter but for this year of 2015 it is down to
only 33-million. While they say there most be a number of reason for
the drop in the Monarch Butterflies, one of the main reasons that they
have found is the lack of milkweed. However, from what I have found
we can help the Monarch's in or own Gardens by growing the Milkweed.
As I am going to do in my garden too.
~History of the Milkweed~
It seems that about Twenty years ago, the Milkweed was
very common plant - as common as dirt in every field in the vast stretch
of the American Midwest and in the East too.
This was great for the Monarchs, because the Milkweed is their host plant
for breeding. And since the Milkweed is slow in decline they are having
trouble keeping the next generation of monarchs going.
Some said it could be the fact that the plant was heavy herbicide
and it couldn't tolerated it. Unfortunately because of this many crops of the
milkweed has been killed off because of this.
Researchers say this could be the main reason why there isn't
any of the common milkweed left that used to thrives along the roadsides today.
It doesn't stop there, they say it could be millions of acres of
this special plant that is putting the monarchs in danger list.
But even with the danger of the Milkweed we can
still help the Monarchs by planting Milkweed.
There are many different kinds of the milkweed too that you could plant too.
Here are a few of the different known milkweeds
1-Green Milkweed
2-Heartleaf Milkweed
3-Narrow-leaved Milkweed
4-Poke Milkweed
5-Prairie Milkweed
6-Purple Milkweed
7-Sand Milkweed
8-Showy Milkweed
9-Spider Milkweed
10-Tall green Milkweed
11-Wavy-Leaved Milkweed
12-Whorled Milkweed
13-Woollypod Milkweed

I hope that you enjoyed the Saturday

The Gift of Ku~

The Gift of Ku~
For today's Fridays post I thought I would give you an story of the Hawaiian Island legends. The Legend of the Gift of Ku is a beautiful Legendary story of Hawaii. This short story is about love of family, honor, the gods of Hawaii and their land. Also the lengths that an Hawaiian Family man/god would go through to take care of his family and his people.
So here is how the story goes my dearest friends & followers.
In ancient Hawaii times the great gods sometimes took the form of men and walked about the islands of Hawaii. So it was that the God Ku married a woman of Hawaii in Ancient Hawaii and settled down as a common man. He farm the land and raised a family too.
Many years passed of happy times together, however a great famine came to the islands. All the people of the island were sick with hunger. The Ku children begged for food, while their mother wept, not knowing what to do or where to find food for them. Her husband at that said,' but it will mean a long, journey.' The wife then asked her husband Ku,' Will you return?' anxiously. Her husband sadly told his wife, that if he does go he will never return. At that, she went to her husband Ku and clung onto him saying, 'please do not leave us!'
However, when her children cried out again that they were so hungry and begged for the smallest amount of food. So later on in the day she went back to her husband Ku telling him she couldn't bear to see their children suffer. Well, that is all he needed to hear. Later that evening Ku called for his wife to come out to the yard while the children were sleeping. He said, very sadly farewell to her after that she watched her beloved husband Ku stand upon his head and he sank into the ground vanishing. After he disappeared, his wife wept bitterly for most of the night. After that each day she came back to the spot and her tears fell on the very place he vanished. Then at last a small shoot pushed from the ground where her husband Ku head went into the ground and disappeared. This small shoot grew and grew from the ground. It got taller and taller and soon became a large tree with leaves and buds.
In a short time the buds swelled into fruits and grew ripening to wonderful food for all the people in the land. The mother told her children that the tree is an gift from your father Ku, its food so you will never go hungry again.
The imu was heated and the ripe fruit cooked. It provide good food for the family. Now there was plenty of food for her children and everyone on the islands. However only the family of Ku could pick the fruit from the sacred tree. If any other reached for the fruit on the tree it would shrink back into the ground. When this happened once again there would be sprouts that would sprouts that would appeared. The family of KU would break off them and carry them to their friends and neighbors on the islands. Told them to plant them and said if you do so you will have food too. This is how the Breadfruit Tree spread throughout the Hawaii Islands. I hope that you all Enjoyed the tale of the Gift of Ku of the Hawaiian Islands legend.

Dragon of Wales~

Dragon of Wales~
The Welsh Red Dragon
For today post I'm going to bring you back to the Ancient world of Wales and the history of the Red Dragon of Wales. I have had this tale for a while i just haven't had a chance to write this story down for you all. I hope that you all will enjoy the story my dears friends and followers...It seems that the Red Dragon was part of the Welsh Royal Badge in 1807. It was displayed as a symbol of the principality of Wales.
Queen Elizabeth ll officially recognized this in the year 1959. How this happened? Well, it seems it all happened in the ninth century. The Red Dragon symbolizes political independence from the British for Wales, hence the people of Wales eventual had the expulsion of the Saxon conquerors. It seems that in previous centuries, the angio-saxons invaders had advanced relentlessly across the island of Wales, forcing both native Britons and Wales folks to retreat westward to part of the island now defined by the national borders of Wales itself. However, ironically the the Red Dragon was brought to Wales by the Britons' previous conquerors, the Romans whose legions occupied the island during the first fourth century of the Christan Era.
~Now for the Myth Part of the Red Dragon~
From what I found out about the legend of the Red Dragon of Wales, it seems that a council of wizards went on  a quest. They were called by Vortigern to go to different realms throughout his Kingdom to find a lad who was born without a father. Vortigern wanted the wizards to find the boy Now! If Vortigern should find the boy and kill him; sprinkling the boy's sacrificed blood upon the foundations which would then be so strong as to resist any siege.
So Vortigern the King, sent these wizards out through the lands of the Kingdoms to find this lad so that he could have the strongest kingdom success throughout the lands. After much looking over the lands the wizards finally came upon a city called Carmarthen and watched a group of young boys playing. It seems there was an argument between two of the boys that were playing. They said,' Thou art a fool to have do with me, for I am born of kings on the mother and the father side. But who art thou, born to no man and no man's son!
they learned the name of the second boy Merlin! '
So Now we are learning the story of Merlin, within the story of the Reo Dragon of Wales. Yes the boy that the wizards were looking for and found was the young boy Merlin.
It seemed that both Merlin and his mother were summoned to the King Vortigern's Court where Merlin's mother told the story of now Merlin was born!
This is something I never knew myself! So here is the tale, it seems that a handsome young man appeared in her bedroom chambers who converse and kissed her then vanished. Although he returned many times after that said Merlin's mother. There was one occasion when the handsome young man did lay with her then again vanish, leaving her with child and from that day on she never saw him again. She called the child Merlin Ambrosius when he was born. At that moment after his mother told the king Vortigern of his birth, they were told that his blood must be spilled upon the foundations of the tower, to make it proof against any attack. However, they got a mouth full from the young wizard Merlin.
King Vortigern finding out what
truly was under his castle
Apparently what the King Vortigern had said was all a lie. By this act Merlin asked the wizards of the King if they even knew what lay beneath the foundation in which their King wanted to spill his blood? When he had asked, of course the kings wizards didn't know and never even asked. They only did what their King Vortigern command of them.So the young boy Merlin told the workmen to dig beneath the soil foundation stones, to show them what truly was under the castle of the King. At first they found a pool of water. From that Merlin said to them all, ' This pool maketh the soil above unstabe and for this the foundations of the castle may not stand.' So after that the young Merlin commanded that the pool to be drained by saying to the King Vortigern, " O King, when the pool Hath been removed, thou shalt find two caves beneath. What Lieth within the cave is the cause of all they Trouble."
When the pool was finally drained, King Vortigern sat by the edge of the pool to see what  the trouble was under his kingdom/castle. At that very moment two very large dragons emerged from the caves, one white and the other red. After the two dragons emerged from the caves, Merlin tells King Vortigern of the Prophecy of the two Dragons. The Red Dragon was said to betokeneth the the race of the Britons and the White Dragon was betokeneth to the saxons whom thou has summoned hither to thy aid. So Merlin as only a boy could explained to the King Vortigern in detail the prophecy of the two dragons that lived under his castle till after 300-years he tells the King all of Wales will be full of joy, all foreigner shall be driven away.
The King was of course marveled with the young wizard predictions and Merlin stayed with the King for year later, but that is another tale that I will do another day. I hope that you all my
dears Enjoyed the tale of the Dragons of Wales

I will come back to this story again one day I promise

Syria - Story of Women's Survival

Syria - Story of Women's Survival-
Good evening my dears friends & followers and happy April,
1, 2015 today. For today's story I am going to go to a place that
I have done once before when I was on Ning.com sites for many many Years. I think it was about over 10-years, anyway I did a post on the young girls of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and parts of Iran too. But for today I am going to talk about a story of one woman's survival in Syria. At some point I will tell the story of the young girls and their fight of survival in those countries of Pakistan, Afghanistan and parts of Iran. Not all people of these countries that I have mentioned are unkind & uncaring people. You must understand when I did that story about 5years ago I think it was that there were lots of good people in these different countries that were very helpful in the survival of these girls and women. This story starts with a very different beginning because this is about a woman and her will to survive with her children. I am sure that most of us have never known or had been uprooted from our home forced to flee with only the clothes that we have on our backs. I can't image this but, believe me there are more than millions of people that will face this each day of their lives. These are some of the  countries that discovered that have a history of Domestic Violence - 'Women & Girls being beaten by their husbands, fathers and even their brothers.' If the Women & Girls are beaten because said a research consultant Aitemad Muhanna, because they are not fulfilling their traditional roles - such as cooking, cleaning, or tending to their appearance to a husbands satisfaction. Other abuses include harsh insults, sexual abuse among family and marital rape.' of Syria, Iran, Pakistan,Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Somalia, Tajikistan, Qatar, Gaza , Algeria, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Israel, Egypt, and Palestinian Territories are just a few that I could find. The link to where I found all of these if you are interested-wikiislam.net/wiki/Muslim_Statistics
This is the story of a women, her life and conflict in Syria. It seems that she was caught in the middle of Syria's 5th year war conflict with neighboring countries. This all started when Syria's Civil war first started in March of 2011. At the time we could never have predicted it would grow into one of the largest humanitarian crisis of our modern time. During that time there have been almost 4-million people that have fled Syria. This doesn't include the millions that have been displaced with the country of Syria. The story of this woman starts five months after the war in Syria. Her husband was killed coming back from work. So she decided that without her husband it was best to flee to Damascus, however the shelter that they had found was hit by many missiles throughout the night which seriously injured one of her daughters of her six children. So She decided to flee across the borders toward Lebanon, where they did get some help by the UN Refugee Agency. She was lucky than most women and their children during that time. She was there for about a year & seven months at the Lebanon UN Refugee Agency and was lucky to be among a small group of refugees selected for resettlement in another country- the U.S. She later arrived in Chicago in January with her six children.
Mayada had many struggles when she first arrived to the U.S with her six Children, one of the main ones was neither she or her children could speak English. She also had no job or a place to live, however they were very happy because they were together and save from harm ways of the war of Syria. They did miss their father very much but they knew he would want them to survive and go on... When Mayada was in Syria she did not work because she was not allow to work. So she first focused on learning the English language and having her children get a education which would never be possible before[especially her girls].
Because of Mayada strong will to survive and her love for her children[from 4-19], I don't think her children would have done as well as they have. Her two oldest as of now are enrolled in a community college and all her other children are in public school. It has been a hard road for her, learning a new language, new life style and customs. However it is all worth it because she knows now that her children will have a better life and more opportunities; especially her girls. Also for her boys too, they will grow up to be much different than if they grew-up in Syria. Its seems that this one woman courage should give us all hope that even if there seems to be no hope, there is truly if you have the strength and will to survive even in some of the terrible conditions you can!
I hope that you find this to be an interesting and a story of hope
I don't usually do stories like this but with the new like it
is now, I thought once in a while I would voice my opinion
on this subject. I hope that you all will have a good read.
Well I love you all and I put my own writing thought to the
story too. however it is not my and the link to where I did get it is
at the bottom..
I hope you all have a great Thursday
